A Bowl of Soup Called Christianity

Posted in Bible Study Topics | Bible Study - Religion and Christianity

Any person who wants to know what they are eating in a bowl of soup needs to discover the ingredients.

Ingredient number one:

All scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, and for instruction in righteousness (2 Timothy 3:16 KJV paraphrased, Year 66).

Wow! so I need to know which scriptures are a part of the ingredients. The verse says “all scriptures”, but all which scriptures? Does this include all the so-called holy books ever written of all religions? Does this mean just the Old Testament scriptures of the Bible?

What about the New Testament? When this verse in Timothy was written, many of the New Testament scriptures were not yet written or known about. If the soup content is to be discovered, I the Manifester will need to know.

Well, let’s go to the contextual setting of the Bible where this said verse was given. The preceding verse, 2 Timothy 3:15 KJV, says: And [synecdoche] that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. Since this letter was written to Timothy who was a mature, adult minister under Paul and who was the son of a Greek father and a Jewish mother, what kind of scriptures would Timothy have known as a child? Whatever kind of scriptures they were, they were “holy scriptures”. Were these scriptures “Plato the Greek scriptures” or “Jewish Torah Scriptures”? This fifteenth verse designates they were holy scriptures able to make one wise unto salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. Paul further writes that Timothy as a child had known the holy scriptures.

Based on the words of Paul and the contextual and time setting of these said scriptures in the book of Timothy, one would need to reason or interpret that the scriptures Paul is saying is given by [holy] inspiration of God must refer to the Old Testament Bible Scriptures available in the form of that time during Timothy’s childhood. Of course, if a person believes in continuous revelation, it is not a problem to forward the application of the Timothy reference to the Old Testament to the current New Testament. But persons not believing in continuous revelation are stuck on the limited application of the use of the Scripture (as given in 2 Timothy 3;16 KJV) to the Old Testament.

Then there is the stain and extreme care of Scripture translation. So let’s say, based on the information available, the translation is excellent. O how many verbal wars have religiously resulted over translations! But, saying as said the translation is excellent in the sense of being correct, that is helpful for sure; but does a correct translation give the interpretation of the Scripture? Not according to Scriptures given in the book of Corinthians.
Let’s take a peek. In 1 Corinthians 2:11 KJV paraphrased, it says: “For what man knows the things of a man save the spirit of man which is in him? Even so the things of God knows no man, but the Spirit of God.” 1 Corinthians 2:10 KJV paraphrased says: But God has revealed them unto us by AMs Spirit.

For the princes of this world knew the Scriptures of the Testament as translated, but they did not know the mystery of the deep interpretation of the Scriptures by the Holy Spirit (compare 1 Corinthians 2:6-9 KJV). So then, those persons who are ready to all but kill over the fine points of Scripture translation (having an excellent and correct translation is, of course, a very good thing!) are most likely missing at least fifty percent in the understanding of the Scripture. They, of course, are missing how that God can take even a Scripture which is only in part and by the Spirit glorify and purify that Scripture by the Holy Spirit to a fulfilled Word. For it is written in 1 Corinthians 13:8-12 KJV a declared truth that Christians and readers of the Word mostly know the meaning only in part. But when the condition of partial knowledge as looking through a glass darkly is replaced by the fullness of Holy Spirit revealed knowledge, childly knowledge will be done away with. Furthermore, it is said that those partial insights into the Word even involving prophecies will fail, tongues will cease, and knowledge built only on the Word in part will vanish away.

So then, Scripture not translated in the threefold of thirtyfold, sixtyfold, and one hundredfold as taught in the Scriptures (See “Divine Tools for Understanding the Bible”, “Where I Go You Know and the Way You Know”, “The Secret and Incredible Bible Story of “E’d”…”, and other www.themanifester.com and www.starrisecommunity.com blogs) are limited to sometimes very shallow insight of the Word. Again the Scriptures are bold of truth in 1 Corinthians 14:2 and 1 Corinthians 14:13-15 KJV. These verses speak of tongues as being on a level of understanding that speak to God but are not understood without interpretation. This example can most certainly also be applied to the Scriptures.

This bowl of soup is getting interesting and mysterious. Yum yum! Then there is the contra-distinction of the Scripture about the Law mentioned in Romans 2:14-15 KJV paraphrased: “Indeed, when Gentiles who do not have the Law, do by nature the things required by the Law, they are a Law to themselves, since they show the requirements of the Law are written on their hearts”.
